Subject: MERIT People, please read...
I am looking for some help. I am an udergrad senior EE at GMI and I am trying to
complete a project fo a communications networks class. I know not everyone in
the nwsgroup will want to read this, but I know that some merit people keep an
eye out here, so here goes.
Do you know where I can get technical specs on the etherppp driver that you
(merit) distribute? (ie.. some technical document on how it works, packet sizes,
memory locations.) Anything that a proffessor might like to see as
documentation for my project. Anything at all (besides the what is PPP? readme
file that I already have) would be helpful.
Secondly...
I have a PPP connection (using your version of etherppp) working from my home
machine. I am using Trumpets winsock and associated software to talk to it.
I can get telnet and ftp to work fine. When I log into Merit (to get my PPP
connection), I use anonymous and guest as my username and password. According
to the Michnet docs I have, this should get me telnet and ftp (inside Michigan
only). This all works swimmingly well, except I want more (ie to use an NNTP
server and to be able to use my mosaic browser {I currently can't even bring
up a home page}). I heard a rumor that I should be able to get a PPP
connection (full service) by using my GMI account. Namely using
nova.gmi.edu/mars7778 as
my username and my regular password (here) for my password. The $60,000
question is : Do you know if this should work? and depending on your answer:
If it should work, who can I contact to find out why its not working? or If it
shouldn't work, who can I contact obout getting some access for a limited time
(free, for educational purposes) whilst I finsh my project for Communication
Networks?
Thanks for the help in advance...
Charles

Subject: HELP: ftp-server and gopher server for 286
Hello, can anybody tell me whether there is any software I can install on my
286 and which enables it to be an ftp- and gopher server?
And where do I get this?
Thanx very much in advance.
Kaspar, with regards

Subject: Re: WS IRC problems
Hello, I'm the author of WSIRC.
WSIRC comes with a set of DLL's that is required for its use. Potentially
there could be other DLL's with the same name but of an older version.
Several users had experienced this problem. To solve this problem, copy all
WSIRC files and DLL's to its own directory and create a program manager icon
that specifies that directory as the working directory.
For advanced users, to reduce storage space, you may compare the file dates
on the DLLs and keep the DLL's with the most recent date.
Cheers, Caesar.
